Martyn Meade looks to have a genuine Guineas contender on his hands based on Eminent's powerful display in the Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket. Sent of at 8/1, the son of Frankel stayed on well in the final furlong to take the mile contest by 1 3/4 lengths from Racing Post Trophy winner Rivet.

Bookies reacted to the performance by cutting the 3yo's odds from 33/1 into as short as 8/1 in places for May's Classic. The unbeaten colt is also entered in the Derby later in the season and is now as short as 12/1 from 33/1.

His trainer speaking after the race said: "My main thought at the moment would be for the Guineas because he does handle this track very well, but there is no doubt that he will get further. Today I was a bit worried about the pace because he needs to have some pace and when he was hitting the dip... I thought as soon as Jim asked him, I thought this horse is going to take a lot of beating now".

Eminent's success was the seventh individual Group winner from Frankel's first crop and the super sire now has live chances in both the 1000 and 2000 Guineas in May.
