Trainer Jonjo O'Neill announced this morning the ante-post favourite will not run
Gold Cup second and ante-post favourite Minella Rocco has been ruled out of next month's Grand National after connections announced he would be taken out of race and aimed at next year's Gold Cup.
The announcement was bad news for Oddschecker punters who had piled into the JP McManus horse since his impressive showing in Friday's Gold Cup, where he stayed on well to power up the hill and grab second place in the dying strides. Since that performance, 41% of all bets on the race in the ante-post market had been for the 7yo, making him the market leader with many firms and as short as 8/1 in places. One Oddschecker user was sitting pretty having stuck £150 on the horse at 33/1 in November, but now will have to look for another way to find the winner of the April showpiece.
Connections also confirmed two-time National runner Shutthefrontdoor would miss the race and would instead be aimed at the Irish version later in the month.
